Many companies offer ITIL based training courses nowadays. But only accredited training companies have quality-checked training methods and training course documentation at their disposal. Accredited training courses have been approved by the examination committees based on their compliance with the examination regulations.
It is thereby ensured that the content that is taught is in complete agreement with the principles of ITIL. It is therefore of vital importance to pay attention to these quality characteristics when selecting a training course.
At the moment, three organisation offer examinations on the basis of ITIL. These are:
- APM Group as the Owner of the ITIL Qualification Scheme
- Information Systems Examination Board (ISEB), in the English language for the UK, Ireland and the British Commonwealth
- Exameninstituut (EXIN), a foundation supported by the Dutch economy, in Dutch, as well as in other languages in various countries in Europe and overseas
Both of these are non-proprietary and non-profit-oriented organisations. They organise the examinations, but do not themselves offer any corresponding training courses. They work very closely together in the drawing up of the examinations. Training organisations that offer training courses as a preparation for the examination have to be accredited by these organisations. The quality of the training courses is thereby guaranteed in this way. The certificates on offer are:
- ITIL V2/V3 Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management
- ITIL V3 Foundation & Managers Bridge
- ITIL V3 Intermediate Lifecylce Stream
- ITIL V3 Intermediate Capability Stream
- Practitioner-level Examinations and Certificates
- Manager-level Examinations and Certificates
The examinations are carried out at regular intervals and in several countries and languages around the globe.
