IT Strategy

In synchronization with a company’s planning cycle, the IT strategy is the logical conclusion derived from the targets set by the business strategy. In a continual process the task is to not only identify changes in business needs but also the external influencing factors such as regulations passed by legislative authorities or new technological developments and to harmonize these with the IT organization. These are forces that have a bearing on the IT strategy and can be visualized with the help of a SWOT analysis and are influenced from the economic aspect. Corresponding adaptations to the IT governance should be published at an early stage and their consequences for management and employees communicated in the form of regular training.

Key elements of the strategy formation are:

  • Recording and formulating the business objectives
  • Setting the objectives within the IT
  • Environmental analysis
  • Target/actual analysis
  • GAP analysis
  • Formulating and evaluating options for action
  • Formulating plan of action & roadmap
  • Verifying the cost effectiveness of the measures
  • Planning the process adaptations within the IT
